On March 23, 2023, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” will start in German cinemas. An animated film based on Nintendo’s famous video game series about the Italian plumber Mario. Superstar Chris Pratt (“Guardians of the Galaxy”, 43) lends his voice to the main character in the English original. The computer game adaptation was produced with Illumination, the animation studio behind successful films such as “I – Simply Despicable” (2010) or “Minions” (2015). A first trailer offers an impression of the upcoming movie.
The villain Bowser, spoken in the original English by Jack Black (53), of course the main character Mario himself, Toad (Keegan-Michael Key, 51) and at the very end Mario’s plumber can be seen prominently in the trailer for “The Super Mario Bros. Movie”. -Buddy Luigi (Charlie Day, 46).
While the visuals of the first teaser trailer were unanimously praised on social media, some users criticized Chris Pratt’s voice work as Mario. He had previously announced that his Mario voice would sound “like nothing [fans] have heard in the Mario world before”. On Twitter, some users are now noting that Pratt would simply sound like himself in the trailer.
For example, Twitter user @HardDriveMag writes: “Who would have thought that Chris Pratt’s big secret voice in the Mario movie would be his normal voice?”.
Twitter user @Nibellion says, “I guess technically we haven’t heard Chris Pratt’s normal voice in the Mario world,” probably referring to the above quote from the star and spokesperson for the main character from the “Super Mario Bros. Movie.” , that he will bring something completely new to the Mario world.
