The convicted fraudster Anna Sorokin (31) was released from US custody pending deportation last Friday (October 7). After around 18 months, according to US media such as “The New York Times”, she was allowed to leave the facility for a deposit of $ 10,000 and under strict conditions.

She was not allowed to leave her apartment in Manhattan and had to wear an electronic tag so that her location could be checked at any time as part of the house arrest and a possible risk of flight. Furthermore, she is prohibited from using any social media platform until further notice.

Sorokin was arrested for fraud in 2017 and sentenced to at least four years in prison in 2019. The accusation: She posed as the German heiress Anna Delvey and thus stole services and goods worth over 200,000 US dollars from Manhattan’s high society. Although Sorokin was briefly released in 2021 for good behavior, he was arrested again a little later due to an expired visa – in a facility of the ICE immigration authority.

According to the report, despite the release, the US judiciary continues to seek to deport Sorokin. The convicted impostor had already appealed against deportation to Germany several times in the past.
