About a week ago, Rosalynn Carter, the wife of former US President Jimmy Carter (99), died at the age of 96. According to the US website “People”, all of her living successors have announced themselves for the upcoming memorial service in honor of the former First Lady. In addition to the incumbent First Lady Jill Biden (72), Hillary Clinton (76), Michelle Obama (59), Laura Bush (77) and Melania Trump (53) will take part in the ceremony.
The memorial service will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, home of the Carters. President Joe Biden (81) and former President Bill Clinton (77) will also be there, and incumbent Vice President Kamala Harris (59) and her husband Doug Emhoff (59) are also expected. According to People, it was an intimate ceremony where only selected guests were invited alongside family members. There will be another memorial service next Wednesday before Rosalynn Carter is buried.
Shortly before her death, Carter was admitted to a hospice and was diagnosed with dementia in May this year. At the time it was said: “She continues to live happily at home with her husband.” For much of her life she has campaigned for mental health and against the stigma often associated with it. It is hoped that the news of Rosalynn Carter’s health could help encourage more “important conversations at kitchen tables and in doctors’ offices across the country.”
On November 19, the non-profit organization The Carter Center announced the death of Rosalynn Carter. She died peacefully surrounded by her family at her home in Plains, Georgia, the center said in a statement. “Rosalynn has been my equal partner in everything I have ever accomplished,” her husband was quoted as saying. “As long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew that someone loved and supported me.”
