Basically since 2011, fantasy fans have been waiting for the release of George R.R. Martin’s (74) novel “The Winds of Winter”, the sixth part of the “A Song of Ice and Fire” book series on which the fantasy series “Game of Thrones”, which ended in 2019, is based. Martin also regularly provides updates on his writing progress and was now a guest of US late-night talker Stephen Colbert (58), who once again asked him about “The Winds of Winter”. Martin stated that he was “three quarters” done with the novel.

The author also prepared his fans for an extremely extensive work. “The Winds of Winter” will therefore have more than 1500 pages – and thus the third part “A Storm of Swords” (2000, German title “Schwertgewitter”) as well as the recently published “A Dance with Dragons” (2011, “Schwertgewitter” ) overshadow. Host Colbert calculated that it would take Martin three more years to write the last quarter, to which the author replied, “That’s depressing”.

A Dance with Dragons, the last published novel in the A Song of Ice and Fire series, was released the same year that the fantasy series based on it, Game of Thrones, debuted on HBO. In the meantime, author Martin has often been busy with other projects from the fantasy universe he conceived. For example, in 2018 the prequel novel “Fire and Blood” (German title: “Feuer und Blut”) was released, on which the “GoT” prequel series “House of the Dragon” is based, the first season of which has just been released on HBO and HBO Max has ended. Martin is also an executive producer on the Game of Thrones spin-off.
