The Invictus Games will take place in 2027 either in Prince Harry’s (39) old home, Great Britain, or in Harry’s new home, the USA. On May 1, the Invictus Games Foundation announced on X, formerly Twitter, the short list of cities currently shortlisted to host the 2027 Invictus Games: Washington, D.C. and Birmingham.
As the chairman of the Invictus Games Foundation, Lord Allen, announced, both cities have “made different but extremely exciting applications”. According to the report, the American capital has placed its focus on the campus of George Washington University, while Birmingham is concentrating on the National Exhibition Centre. The company is looking forward to the next phase of the selection process, it continues. A final decision on where the 2027 Invictus Games will take place is expected at the end of July.
This decision is made over a lengthy selection process – not by Prince Harry. He recently admitted to People that the prince has problems choosing between his old and his new home. The question was whether he was rooting for the American or the British team in the competition. Harry’s diplomatic response was: “I feel like I have a special connection with all teams and I’m more of a supporter of sport rather than winning. So I’m not picking sides.”
The sports tournament for injured and disabled soldiers and veterans, launched in 2014, has already taken place in both countries: the first Invictus Games were held in London in 2014, and the second tournament took place in Orlando in 2016. The games have already been held in Germany: in 2023 they will take place in Düsseldorf. The eighth edition of the Invictus Games will take place in 2027.
The next Invictus Games will be held in February 2025 in Vancouver and Whistler, Canada. This time for the first time with winter sports such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, cross-country skiing, skeleton and wheelchair curling.
