The possible procedure against US rapper Asap Rocky (“Praise the Lord”) for an alleged attack with a firearm has been delayed. The 34-year-old musician, partner of pop star Rihanna (34), appeared in court in Los Angeles. There, however, the judge responsible set a new hearing for mid-January, as reported by the industry journal “Rolling Stone”. Then a date is to be set to decide whether the available evidence is sufficient for a trial against Asap Rocky.

The allegations relate to an incident in Hollywood in November 2021. The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, is accused of having drawn a gun in an argument with an acquaintance and shot him. The victim was slightly injured, according to media reports.

The rapper was taken into custody at Los Angeles Airport last April after returning from the Caribbean island of Barbados. He was initially released on bail. The musician was accompanied by singer Rihanna from Barbados, who was heavily pregnant at the time. In August, he was charged with an alleged assault with a firearm. He has denied the allegations.

Not the first trial against Asap Rocky

The rapper was convicted of assault in Sweden in 2019 after a violent incident. He was held in custody for around four weeks, but he managed to avoid a longer prison sentence. This was preceded by an argument in Stockholm in which the musician and two of his companions beat up a man on the street.
