The double strike in Hollywood, in which both screenwriters and actors stopped work for months, has ended for some time. This means that numerous film and series productions finally have planning security again – including the highly praised HBO series “The Last of Us”. According to the US industry site “Variety”, showrunner Craig Mazin (52) has now revealed the specific date on which the second season of the dystopian apocalyptic series will go into production: The long-awaited starting signal will be given on February 12, 2024.
The series adaptation of Naughty Dog’s video game of the same name thrilled HBO’s audience at the beginning of the year and, among other things, had the second best series start of the past decade for HBO – after the “Game of Thrones” spin-off “House of the Dragon”. Season one also received an impressive rating of 96 percent positive reviews on the review collection site “Rotten Tomatoes”.
It’s no surprise that the series with “Star Wars” hero Pedro Pascal (48) and Bella Ramsey (20), known from “Game of Thrones”, in the main roles was already extended by HBO while the first season was broadcast.
The aforementioned double strike by screenwriters and actors this year put a stop to the early start of production on season two. But even with a planned start of production in mid-February, the broadcast of the second season will still be a long time coming: the elaborately produced first season required a full 200 days of filming. It can be assumed that season two will take a similar amount of time. As a result, the new episodes can probably be expected at the beginning of 2025 at the earliest.
