Since 2018, the moderator trio Günther Jauch, Thomas Gottschalk and Barbara Schöneberger have been leading the RTL program “Because they don’t know what’s happening”. The title of the live broadcast has never been more appropriate than this Saturday evening. Because the spectators were amazed when they were only greeted by Barbara Schöneberger. Gottschalk and Jauch were missing in the studio.

The 48-year-old commented on the unusual situation with her typical humor: “I come empty-handed. It also feels strange to me. But I just did the math and I came to the conclusion that there was more money for me remains if I do it alone. Someone just said to me: ‘You’re like Angela Merkel, you don’t let male newcomers get to the top.’ So I bit them all off.”

However, it was quickly clarified where Gottschalk and Jauch are actually stuck. The latter has been infected again with the corona virus. “I don’t know why that’s the case, but whenever it starts with ‘Because you don’t know what’s happening’, the corona virus looks around the corner from me. I was actually in Cologne last night and then I noticed , something is wrong. I then did three or four tests and failed,” explained Jauch, who was connected via video from his home in Potsdam. In fact, the 66-year-old had already contracted Covid-19 last year and therefore missed three episodes of the RTL show.

Thomas Gottschalk, on the other hand, had a less convincing excuse for his absence. He sent a video message from the beach in Malibu. “I took an advanced surfing course and tonight there’s a show. I really want to win that,” joked the 72-year-old. Gottschalk is currently on a vacation of several weeks in the USA with his partner Karina Mroß, as he recently told the “Bild” newspaper. Interrupting the holiday for a live show in Cologne was apparently too cumbersome for the moderator.

But Barbara Schöneberger didn’t have to lead the show all alone. As a replacement, she got TV chef Steffen Henssler at her side. He liked his role and announced: “I’ll be back next time”. A new edition of “Because you don’t know what’s happening” will be broadcast on RTL next Saturday, November 12 at 8:15 p.m.
