A new “Indiana Jones” series is to be created for the Disney streaming service. As the industry magazine “Variety” reports, the Disney Group and Lucasfilm are currently holding initial talks with potential authors about the conception of such a streaming series. However, a screenwriter has not yet been found for the project, which is in the early stages of development. Further details about the series are also not yet known. It will therefore probably take at least a few more years before the series could be released on Disney.
Film legend Harrison Ford (80) was most recently in front of the camera for the still untitled fifth “Indiana Jones” feature film, which is scheduled to hit theaters in June 2023. Ford announced at Disney Corporation’s D23 Expo in September that he would not play the character again. “Variety” therefore reports on the possibility of a prequel series that could revolve around the adventures of a younger Indiana Jones. A younger actor would take on the iconic role in this Ford case.
In fact, there would be a historical model for a series about a younger Indiana Jones. Between 1992 and 1993 the US channel ABC released the prequel series “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones”. Sean Patrick Flanery (57) and Corey Carrier (42) embodied the title character at the time. The series took place between 1908 and 1920. In the prologue to the third feature film “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade” from 1989, River Phoenix (1970-1993) also played a 13-year-old Indiana Jones.
