The news briefly dominated the media this week: Boris Becker could be deported to Germany before Christmas, according to the rumor. The former tennis star, who was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for bankruptcy offences, has been in Great Britain since the end of April. In May he was transferred from Wandsworth maximum security prison in London to Huntercombe, a lower-security male prison in Oxford County. The prison is a good hour’s drive west of Becker’s former place of residence London and is one of only three penal institutions in the country in which only foreigners are held.
