Two of the most successful films of the year also top the list of films in Google’s annual review in 2023: “Oppenheimer” and Barbie. Unsurprising for cinema fans, as the duo, which was released in cinemas at the same time in the summer, even the nickname “Barbenheimer”. In addition to the Hollywood double strike, the two productions dominated the entertainment headlines when it came to film and took first place (“Oppenheimer”) and second place (“Barbie”) of the films for which the search interest compared to the previous year has increased the most.

We continue in third place with the sci-fi spectacle “Avatar: The Way of Water” by James Cameron (69), which will be published at the end of 2022. This means that only absolute box office hits are on the podium. According to “Box Office Mojo”, “Barbie” was the top ticket sales leader with Margot Robbie (33), Ryan Gosling (43) and more than 1.4 billion dollars. “Oppenheimer” with Cillian Murphy (47) and Florence Pugh (27) brings in just over $950 million at the box office.

Keanu Reeves’ (59) action board “John Wick: Chapter 4” ends up in fourth place in the Google comparison, the German Oscar success “Nothing New in the West” comes in fifth place and “Sun and Concrete”, the film adaptation of Felix Lobrecht’s (34) bestseller of the same name, on the six. Meanwhile, the Second German Television, together with Netflix, dominates the series list in Google Trends. The ZDF success “Yesterday we were still children” with Julia Beautx (24) not only achieved dream numbers in the ZDF media library, but also topped the listing on Eins. In second place is the Netflix megahit “Wednesday,” which established Jenna Ortega (21) as a fixture in Hollywood in 2022.

Third place goes to “One Piece,” a long-running manga and anime series that got a live-action series from Netflix in the summer. In fourth place is ZDF again with “Der Schwarm”, while the Netflix production “Ginny” is in fifth place
