The authorities emirati had given in February the green light to the operation of the nuclear power plant located in the north-west of the country, without giving a date for its commissioning. Founded in 2016, Nawah Energy Company shall operate and maintain the four reactors which must be installed there, according to the website of the company. The construction is carried out by a consortium led by the Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) and by the south Korean Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), for a cost estimated at 24.4 billion dollars.

The first of four reactors had to be brought into service in late 2017, but the start date has been postponed several times to meet, according to the officials, the legal conditions of security.
