CHARLOTTE — Liberty University has extended its sponsorship of William Byron for five years with Hendrick Motorsports.
Byron, a junior, is pursuing a degree as a strategic communicator through Liberty’s online program. Since 2014, when he drove late-model cars, Byron has been sponsored in part by the Christian university.
Since 2018, Byron has been sponsored by Liberty at the Cup level 12 times per season. Friday’s announcement of a contract extension covers 12 races per year until 2026.
Liberty President Jerry Prevo stated that Hendrick Motorsports is an honor to be a partner and supporter. We believe this partnership will be a benefit to Liberty University’s students in many ways.”
Liberty uses sponsorship to promote its university. However, it also receives support by the race team. Hendrick Motorsports assisted Liberty’s School of Engineering’s Formula SAE effort. This effort focuses on electric vehicle technology. Hendrick Automotive Group helped to develop a degree in automotive dealership management.
