LONDON, Callum Wilson’s goal with an overhead kick saved Newcastle at Crystal Palace a draw, but the team is now owned by Saudi Arabia and has not won the Premier League after nine games.
Wilson’s 65th minute acrobatic feat was his fourth goal of this season and his second in two games after returning from injury.
It cancelled out Christian Benteke’s opening goal, which he scored nine minutes earlier. Christian Benteke had scored from Tyrick Mitchell’s cross to the backpost.
Benteke had hit the crossbar and a post earlier, while he missed a second gilt-edged opportunity after scoring. Then, he had a headed goal in the 87th minute ruled out as an infringement of the penalty area.
Graeme Jones was the coach at Selhurst Park for Newcastle. He was placed in interim control of the boyhood club following the firing of Steve Bruce on Wednesday. This was the first major call by Saudi ownership since the $300-million-pound ($409M) takeover.
Newcastle remained in the next-to-last position.
