More unit parts make the formula 1 more cost-effective. But this is a Thesis that David Coulthard emphasizes critical. In the ‘Autosport’-the Podcast of the multiple Grand Prix winner, why he is afraid of the explains to may that much the egalitarianism of the formula 1 more damage than benefit.

He did not want to exclude unit parts per se categorically says Coulthard, but the components are not limited, “the performance is absolutely relevant,” he says. The formula 1 should not become a unit series in which the cars differ only slightly from each other.

“IndyCar needs is not a world-wide audience, because it’s not rocket science,” says Coulthard, saying: “There [in formula 1] to have a certain magic. It may not be easy to cars by the rod. I don’t know that the rules go so far, but if there are too many unit parts …”

Why Coulthard wants no unit cars

The responsible person should ensure in each case that the formula-1 “routes the fastest lap-race series,” stay, and “at a distance”, as Coulthard. The from doing the big attraction of the Grands Prix.

And That the Teams construct their cars, in all material respects itself, should not be for the future non-negotiable: “formula 1 was always the “king’s class”, and that’s where your car needs to be easy for the most part, your intellectual property.”

Coulthard fears, however, new measures such as the budget ceiling, and especially the development advantages for the poorer Teams in the constructors ‘ championship could dilute the value of the formula 1. O-Ton: “I have certain concerns, in particular, providing success with a Handicap.”

“I think the Basis of the formula 1 has always been that there is a set of rules that everyone interpret and, with its individual possibilities can implement,” says Coulthard.
