FC Bayern is apparently about to sign long-time English national defender Eric Dier (29) from Tottenham Hotspur. According to Sky information, the Munich team has reached a verbal agreement with the former teammate of star striker Harry Kane.
The transfer fee for Dier, who can also be used in defensive midfield, is said to be under five million euros, and a contract is being discussed until at least 2025. There was initially no official information.
The employment relationship of Dier, who was already linked to FC Bayern in the summer of 2023, is only valid until the end of June at the traditional club from London. Dier was no longer in the squad for Spurs’ FA Cup game against Burnley FC. The Munich-based company is apparently considering other alternatives.
Chalobah is also probably in conversation
The name Trevoh Chalobah is also traded. The 24-year-old Englishman from Chelsea was already linked to FC Bayern in the summer, and according to British media, the Munich team has now renewed their interest. Coach Thomas Tuchel knows Chalobah, who can be used in defense as well as on the right side, from his time at Chelsea. The defender is currently recovering from a thigh injury but should be fit again by the end of the month. There is speculation about a loan deal, but according to Sky, a commitment is currently not an issue.
The 49-time national player Dier is only a substitute at Tottenham. The defensive player was only used four times in the Premier League under coach Ange Postecoglou. Tottenham have reportedly already found a suitable replacement in Romanian international Radu Dragusin from CFC Genoa.
Bayern coach Tuchel knows Dier
Dier and the Munich attacker Kane know each other from their time together at Tottenham and the English national team. Kane only moved to the Isar last summer after ten years in London for the Bundesliga record fee of 100 million euros. Bayern coach Tuchel, who looked after Chelsea FC for around one and a half years, also knows the Premier League defender very well.
For the Munich coach, improving the defense is essential. FC Bayern’s bottleneck is already becoming clear. The South Korean central defender Minjae Kim will be active for his home country at the Asian Cup in Qatar until February 10th at the latest. In addition, full-back Noussair Mazraoui was called up by the Moroccan national coach for the Africa Cup of Nations (January 13th to February 11th) despite a calf injury.
