Borussia Dortmund just missed out on another sense of achievement at the end of the US tour. In the test against Chelsea FC, the Bundesliga club had to settle for a 1-1 (0-0) draw.
Mason Burstow’s late equalizer (89′) robbed the German runners-up of victory in front of 48,183 spectators at Chicago’s Soldier Field. National player Marius Wolf had given BVB the lead nine minutes earlier. All three newcomers, Marcel Sabitzer, Felix Nmecha and Ramy Bensebaini, were used against the English, who were superior for long stretches.
Terzic: “We’re on the right track”
BVB coach Edin Terzic rated the game as progress compared to the duels with San Diego Loyal (6-0) and Manchester United (3-2): “We’ve been on the road for ten days now and have improved from game to game. If you can see what the lads have invested in the training days and the games: a big compliment. It shows that we’re on the right track.”
Immediately after the test against the English club, in which Borussia failed in the Champions League round of 16 (1-0/0-2) last season, BVB returned home after a total of eleven days. The dress rehearsal for the new season in their own stadium against Ajax Amsterdam is already on Sunday (5:00 p.m.). BVB will play their first competitive game of the season on August 12 in the cup at TSV Schott Mainz. A week later, the Bundesliga starts with the home game against 1. FC Köln.
