National coach Hansi Flick regretted the release of Julian Nagelsmann (35) from FC Bayern Munich.
“I think it’s a shame that of course he’s now being deprived of the chance to win three titles,” said Flick during the half-time break of the U21 international match between Germany and Japan on the ProSieben Maxx TV station in Frankfurt. Flick had led Munich to the triple in 2020, his successor was Nagelsmann in 2021.
Nagelsmann remains an “outstanding coach” despite his early retirement as a Munich coach, said the 58-year-old Flick. The Bayern players in the national soccer team were “very surprised” by the news, just like him. FC Bayern officially released Nagelsmann on Friday evening, and Thomas Tuchel (49) will be his successor.
Goretzka: “Great person and coach”
National player and Bayern professional Leon Goretzka reacted to Nagelsmann’s release with emotional farewell words. “Thank you very much for the cooperation. A cooperation that was always characterized by trust, fun and mutual respect. You are a great person and coach, whom we all wish the very best,” wrote the Munich midfielder on Instagram.
“It is now up to us to successfully complete your work. Thanks for everything!” Goretzka continued. In addition, the 28-year-old published a picture that shows him and his former coach immediately before a hug on the pitch.
