Max Langenhan won his first major individual title at the World Luge Championships in Altenberg. The 24-year-old World Cup leader easily prevailed in the single-seater competition ahead of the Austrian Nico Gleirscher. The three-time Olympic champion Felix Loch took bronze after catching up in the second run. One day after his silver medal in the sprint competition, Langenhan was unbeatable in the traditional single-seater competition. “In the end, of course, it’s this title that counts, which you can also win at the Olympics. That’s simply the single-seater title. There’s no sprint at the Olympics yet,” said the luger who dominated this season before the World Championships.
For the German lugers, Langenhan’s title and Loch’s bronze medal were the fourth medal in the sixth of the nine World Cup races. In Altenberg, the men’s doubles are still on the competition program on Saturday and the women’s singles with sprint world champion Julia Taubitz and the team relay on Sunday. At the previous home World Championships in Oberhof last year, the German team won eight titles and eight additional medals.
