Goalkeeper Timo Horn and captain Jonas Hector are among the identification figures at 1. FC Köln. The FC fans are all the more anxious about the coming summer when the contracts of the two professionals expire. Coach Steffen Baumgart makes no secret of the fact that both Horn and Hector could be gone after the season.

The 50-year-old explained this in an interview with the Cologne Express. Baumgart said about Horn’s situation: “Above all, I wish that Timo makes the right decision and is satisfied. He has to make this decision for himself, not for us.”

Baumgart emphasized that he thinks the 29-year-old is good enough to play as a first-choice goalkeeper in the Bundesliga. However, Horn’s way into the Cologne goal was blocked by the strong performances of Marvin Schwäbe. “In my view, Timo is not only a deserving player, but a native of Cologne who has experienced a lot with the club. Nevertheless, Timo’s sporting situation is not satisfactory at the moment,” said the FC coach, summing up the dilemma.

Unlike Horn, Captain Jonas Hector has secured his regular place with the Billy Goats. Nevertheless, the ex-national player has indicated several times that, despite being only 32 years old, he can imagine ending his career in the summer.

Baumgart does not want to interfere with his protégé’s decision, but of course he hopes that he will stay: “I don’t ask him: How are you today, have you already made a decision? That would be nonsense. If Jonas stays, I’ll be very happy. If not , we still have to continue on our way. We should just wait and see, nobody can influence his decision.”
