Mick Schumacher was quite unimpressed by the clear statements made by team owner Gene Haas.
Be it the clear demand for points for the last four races in this Formula 1 season for the 23-year-old German or Haas’ words about the costs that Schumacher caused by his two serious accidents in the first third of the championship.
“Gene is my boss,” said Mick Schumacher in the paddock at the US Grand Prix in Austin. “Of course he has every right to make his comments,” he said. “If he wants to stay with us, he has to show us that he can still score. We’re waiting for that,” Gene Haas recently emphasized, among other things.
Hulkenberg acted as a candidate
A decision about the second driver next to the Dane Kevin Magnussen is not to be expected this weekend and also afterwards at the Mexican Grand Prix. “We take our time, we don’t give ourselves a deadline,” said team boss Günther Steiner: “When we’re done, we’ll say it.”
He recently confirmed contact with Nico Hulkenberg. The 35-year-old, who was born in Emmerich, is considered a possible successor if Schumacher’s contract is not extended at Haas.
His current team partner also campaigned strongly for Schumacher to remain in Formula 1. Magnussen emphasized in Austin that he had no influence on the driver question. Mick Schumacher has really improved over the year. “He’s been very difficult for me to beat lately,” said Magnussen. “The way he drives now, he definitely deserves a place on the grid.”
