Bird of paradise Peter Wright won his second title at the European Darts Championship in Dortmund. After 2020, the 53-year-old Scot now also prevailed in 2023 after an 11:6 final victory over England’s James Wade.

“Snakebite”, as Wright, who is known for his colorful costumes and hairstyles, is known, crowned a strong tournament in which he clearly defeated world champion Michael Smith from England, among others. He was almost eliminated against the German Gabriel Clemens at 6:5 in the first round.

The two-time world champion Wright prevailed confidently in his Halloween outfit and played a dominant final. The important major title also helps Wright in the so-called Order of Merit, the world rankings.

With the 120,000 pounds (around 137,000 euros), Wright overtakes the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen and takes second place in the ranking again. Only world champion Smith has earned more prize money in the past two years. The World Cup begins in just over six weeks (December 15th to January 3rd) at Alexandra Palace in London.
