The third division football team 1. FC Saarbrücken is looking forward to the guest appearance of FC Bayern Munich in the DFB Cup. The record champions will come to Saarland in the second round of the cup, as shown by the draw by world champion Shkodran Mustafi on ARD’s “Sportschau”.
“Absolutely awesome, yes,” commented Saarbrücken’s coach Rüdiger Ziehl. He is looking forward to the “great opponent”, but who is “difficult to deal with”.
Defending champion RB Leipzig will face first division rivals VfL Wolfsburg away in the round played on October 31st and November 1st. Other first division duels include VfB Stuttgart against Union Berlin, Borussia Mönchengladbach against 1. FC Heidenheim and Borussia Dortmund against TSG Hoffenheim.
Viktoria Cologne also received an attractive opponent in the first division club Eintracht Frankfurt. Stephan Küsters, the third division club’s sporting director, is looking forward to “a sold-out stadium”. But he said about a possible game at the home of 1. FC Köln: “We have to see whether it’s worth moving to the big stadium.” Another cup duel between the 3rd and 1st leagues is SV Sandhausen against Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
FC 08 Homburg hoped in vain for a first division team. The only regional league team in the draw will face second division team SpVgg Greuther Fürth. “Nice draw,” commented Homburg coach Danny Schwarz. The final will take place on May 25th next year in the Berlin Olympic Stadium.
