The German soccer record champion FC Bayern Munich has suspended striker Sadio Mané for the upcoming Bundesliga game against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and officially justified this on Thursday with misconduct. The media had previously reported a dispute between Mané and Leroy Sané after the 3-0 loss in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Manchester City.

In a press release, the record champions explained on Thursday afternoon: “Sadio Mané, 31, will not be in the FC Bayern squad for the home game against 1899 Hoffenheim next Saturday. The reason is Mané’s misconduct after FC Bayern’s Champions League game at Manchester City. In addition, Mané will receive a fine.” The people of Munich did not provide any information about the amount.

Mané had taken part in training on Säbener Straße in the morning. As the “Bild” reports, there is said to have been a joint meeting with the Bayern bosses beforehand, in which the club bosses Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic as well as Mané and Sané took part.

For Mané, the penalty is the next step backwards in an already disappointing season. In the midst of the turbulent weeks, he became more and more of a problem in Munich. In the summer of 2022, after signing Liverpool FC, the attacker was considered a Munich royal transfer.

Many saw him as the new Robert Lewandowski, a top scorer, a star striker. Bayern were very proud to have signed an absolute world star. But the euphoria fizzled out as quickly as it arose.

The Senegalese has been either injured or out of shape for months – but always frustrated. The Sadio Mané from Liverpool’s heyday has not yet arrived in Munich. Six Bundesliga goals are not enough to live up to his reputation as a world star. When playing jokers, the 31-year-old often seems like a foreign body on the field.
