In the night from Friday to Saturday there was a fatal traffic accident on Autobahn 7. Near Bad Fallingbostel in the Heidekreis district (about 80 kilometers south of Hamburg), there was a serious traffic accident in which the basketball player Mubarak Salami died.
The “Hamburger Abendblatt” reports that, according to the police, the professional athlete’s car collided with a van on the motorway that was securing a heavy load on the hard shoulder. As a result of the impact, the vehicle driving in the direction of Hamburg is said to have been thrown over several lanes to the crash barrier, where it collided with another car.
Both vehicles are said to have caught fire immediately and then burned out. The 28-year-old driver of the vehicle in the left lane was able to get out of the car himself, but suffered serious injuries and was then taken to a nearby hospital. The driver of the van on the hard shoulder was physically unharmed but is in shock. Any help came too late for 26-year-old Mubarak Salami in his Hyundai.
The professional basketball player Salami grew up in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg. He played for the Hamburg club EimsbüttlerTV for many years and has already led the points evaluation of the 2nd Bundesliga ProB twice. Just last weekend, the basketball player was able to score 25 points for his new club, to which he had recently switched.
The shooting guard last played for the third division club Dragons Rhöndorf. It can be assumed that Salami was on his way to his home town of Hamburg when the accident happened. He is said to have already rejected offers from the Bundesliga during his career in order to be able to take better care of his six siblings in Hamburg.
