With a win against relegation-threatened FC Hansa Rostock, Holstein Kiel maintained the pressure on league leaders FC St. Pauli in the 2nd Bundesliga. Coach Marcel Rapp’s team won 2-0 (1-0) in front of 14,712 spectators in the Holstein Stadium.

Kiel is now only two points behind the Kiezclub, but the Hamburg team is still playing on Sunday. Steven Skrzybski (3rd minute) and Lewis Holtby (57th) scored for the home team. Rostock slips to 17th place in the table.

Düsseldorf spoils Lautern’s cup dress rehearsal

Fortuna Düsseldorf also celebrated an important victory in the promotion battle and thus spoiled 1. FC Kaiserslautern’s dress rehearsal for the cup semi-finals. Coach Daniel Thioune’s team won 3-1 (0-1) after a strong second half against the Palatinate team, which was threatened with relegation. As a result of the defeat, the FCK fell back to 16th place in the relegation zone. Düsseldorf temporarily took third place.

In the fight against relegation, Eintracht Braunschweig picked up three important points. Coach Daniel Scherning’s team clearly defeated the harmless newcomer SV Elversberg 5-0 (2-0) and temporarily climbed to 14th place. Elversberg lost four of the last five league games.

Torfestival in Berlin

Hertha BSC and 1. FC Nürnberg can practically say goodbye to promotion for good despite a spectacular goal show. In the duel between the traditional clubs, the Berliners made up a 0-2 deficit in the evening and fought against the Franconians to win 3-3 (1-2). The entertaining draw does little to help both teams in the fight for the top places: Hertha is eighth, two places ahead of FCN.

In front of 51,981 spectators, Can Uzun (14th minute/47th) and Lukas Schmelzer (33rd) scored the goals for Nuremberg. Marten Winkler (44th) and Haris Tabakovic (54th/56th/foul penalty) scored for the hosts.
