According to Israeli information, the number of deaths in an explosion outside a hospital in the city of Gaza is lower than stated by Hamas, which rules there.
“The Israeli army has intelligence that strongly suggests that the number of tragic deaths caused by a misguided Islamic Jihad rocket was also exaggerated by Hamas as part of a disinformation campaign,” an army spokesman said.
Ministry of Health controlled by Hamas
The Ministry of Health in Gaza is controlled by the Islamist Hamas, which is also classified as a terrorist organization by the EU and US. The ministry said on Wednesday that 471 people died as a result of a rocket impact. The information could not initially be independently verified.
Israel blamed the explosion on the terrorist organization Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip for the misguided rocket and presented evidence to prove this.
The Palestinian side and numerous Arab states, however, continue to blame Israel.
