Last week I wrote about the awarding of the Order of Merit to Angela Merkel. I made a mistake when listing the guests: It was not the Eastern Europe historian Karl Schlögel who was a guest at Bellevue Palace, but the chemist Robert Schlögl. It is pointless to explain how this confusion came about. I can only apologize to Karl Schlögel, who hopefully didn’t stand in front of the castle in vain; Robert Schlögl, who may have wondered why he was uninvited again – and of course you, dear stern readers.
