A police operation to remove posters with pictures of Israeli hostages in Berlin has caused outrage. A video shared on the platform X, formerly Twitter, shows police officers removing posters from an advertising pillar.
There were pictures of people who had been abducted from Israel by the Islamist terrorist organization Hamas. Some users criticized the actions of the emergency services. Berlin police chief Barbara Slowik expressed her regret.
Legal assessment is still pending
Slowik said on “This affects me and I deeply regret it.” Regardless of this, the legal assessment of the poster is still pending.
According to the police, the video shows an operation from last Thursday in Berlin-Friedrichshain. “Due to the suspicion of unauthorized posters, our colleagues removed them from the advertising column,” the authority wrote on X. An assessment by the Berlin Public Prosecutor’s Office is still pending.
