Happy news from national soccer player Tabea Sellner (27): She is expecting her first child next year. Her club, VfL Wolfsburg, announced this on the official homepage. Sellner informed her teammates about this this week and will no longer be on the pitch for the Wolves due to her pregnancy, it is said. The club – like Sellner – also shared the corresponding club announcement via Instagram.
Ralf Kellermann (54), director of women’s football at VfL Wolfsburg, said in a statement: “We are very happy for Tabea and her husband and wish them all the best for the new, exciting phase of their lives.” They want to create the “best possible conditions” for her to return to the team after the birth. Sellner has only been playing in Wolfsburg since 2021, when he moved from TSG 1899 Hoffenheim to Volkswagen City. So far she has laced up her boots there 65 times in competitive games and scored 31 goals.
Sellner has played 25 times for the national team so far and was able to celebrate his own goals five times. In 2022 she became runner-up at the European Championships in England. With the Wolfsburg women’s team she became German champion in 2022 and also won the DFB Cup in the same year. Last season, Sellner and VfL were able to triumph again in the final in Berlin and win the DFB Cup again.
Sellner was not nominated for the disappointing World Cup, which ended in the preliminary round for the DFB team. Last season, Sellner played under her birth name Waßmuth. On June 18, Sellner also shared a picture via Instagram that showed her and her husband with wedding rings. Numerous DFB colleagues such as Lena Oberdorf (21), Alexandra Popp (32) and Lina Magull (29) congratulated in the comments.
