US pop star Madonna spent several days in intensive care with a severe bacterial infection and now has to postpone her world tour. This was announced by the manager of the 64-year-old on Wednesday. The tour was supposed to start on July 15 in Vancouver, Canada. Then Madonna wanted to tour across the US and come to Europe in the fall, including Cologne on November 15th and 16th and Berlin on November 28th and 29th.
In a statement, manager Guy Oseary said Madonna is now on the mend but is still receiving medical treatment. A full recovery is expected. According to him, the pop star developed a severe bacterial infection on June 24, which led to “a stay in intensive care for several days”.
Earlier this year, Madonna announced a world tour. It includes more than 80 concert dates. On the “Celebration Tour”, the Queen of Pop wanted to present her greatest hits of the past 40 years in dozens of cities in North America and Europe. “We’ll let you know more details as soon as we have them, including a new tour start date and for rescheduled shows,” the manager wrote.
Madonna has a large repertoire of world hits, including “Like a Virgin” (1984), “Material Girl” (1985), “La Isla Bonita” (1987), “Like a Prayer” (1989), “Vogue” (1990) , “Frozen” (1998) or “Music” (2000). Her 65th birthday is on August 16th.
The American gossip site “pagesix.com” wrote without further citing the source that Madonna was found unconscious in her New York apartment on Saturday. She was intubated in a New York hospital for at least one night, daughter Lourdes Leon (26) had not left her mother’s side in the past few days.
