On the night of March 11, 2024, the Oscars will take place for the 96th time. The awards from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences are considered the most important film awards in the world. After an outstanding film year in 2023 with blockbusters such as Christopher Nolan’s film biography “Oppenheimer”, Greta Gerwig’s summer hit “Barbie” and “Poor Things” with Emma Stone in the lead role, this year’s awards are eagerly awaited.

As in previous years, the Academy Awards ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Like last year, host Jimmy Kimmel will host the evening. Kimmel previously hosted the show in 2017, 2018 and 2023.

All the laudators who will award the prizes this year have now been announced. Typically, the acting categories are awarded by the previous year’s winners. This year it hits Brendan Fraser, Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis. Michelle Pfeiffer, Nicolas Cage, Al Pacino, Zendaya, Mahershala Ali, Jessica Lange, Matthew McConaughey, Lupita Nyong’o and Sam Rockwell will also present various Oscars. Other names on the list include: Bad Bunny, Chris Hemsworth, Dwayne Johnson, Michael Keaton, Regina King, Jennifer Lawrence, Kate McKinnon, Rita Moreno, John Mulaney, Catherine O’Hara, Octavia Spencer and Ramy Youssef.

The recently announced remaining eulogists also include Emily Blunt, America Ferrera, and Ryan Gosling, each of whom is nominated for an Oscar. Cynthia Erivo, Sally Field, Ariana Grande, Ben Kingsley, Melissa McCarthy, Issa Rae, Tim Robbins, Steven Spielberg, Mary Steenburgen, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlize Theron, Christoph Waltz and Forest Whitaker are also part of the awards ceremony.

The five nominated artists in the “Best Song” category will also provide musical entertainment at the Academy Awards. This applies to Ryan Gosling with “I’m Just Ken” from “Barbie”, Jon Batiste with “It Never Went Away” (“American Symphony”), Becky G. with “The Fire Inside” (“Flamin’ Hot”), Scott George and the Osage Singers with “Wahzhazhe (A Song For My People)” from “Killers of the Flower Moon” and last but not least Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell with “What Was I Made For?” from “Barbie”.

The coveted film prize is awarded in a total of 23 categories, with 120 nominations in the running this year. The most important Oscars include the award for best film, best actress and best actor, best supporting actress and best supporting actor and the award for best director.

With 13 nominations, Christopher Nolan’s autobiography “Oppenheimer” about the eponymous “father of the atomic bomb” is the absolute favorite of this year’s awards ceremony. Martin Scorsese’s “Poor Things” and “Killers of the Flower Moon” are also being treated as potential wins. They follow Nolan’s blockbuster with eleven and ten nominations.

Germany is also particularly excited about “The Teacher’s Room”. The film is nominated in the “Best International Film” category. Great hope is placed not least on Sandra Hülser, who could win the Oscar for best actress for “Anatomy of a Case”.
