Joni Mitchell celebrated her 80th birthday on November 7th – and soon a first. The singer will perform for the first time at the Grammy Awards on February 4th.
The folk legend is nominated for a Grammy Award in the “Best Folk Album” category for his album “Joni Mitchell At Newport (Live)”. The “Big Yellow Taxi” singer will perform at the awards show for the first time in her career, it was announced in a press release on Sunday. The 80-year-old also announced the news on her Instagram account. She has won a Grammy nine times, but has never been included as a performer.
She has been nominated 18 times in her long career. Her last Grammy win to date was in 2022, when she took home the award for Best Historical Album for “Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963-1967). 2022 was a big year for Mitchell : In July, she celebrated her first live performance in 20 years at the Newport Folk Festival, which was recorded and released as an album, ultimately earning the singer her first Grammy nomination in a folk category in many years.
The 66th Annual Grammy Awards 2024 will air February 4 on CBS and Paramount. The music award ceremony will take place live at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Billie Eilish (22), Billy Joel (74) and Dua Lipa (28) are also expected to appear.
