Jay Leno (72) takes his severe burns with humor. In an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal, the talk show icon joked about his second- and third-degree burns. “Eight days later I had a brand new face. And it’s better than what was there before.”

Jay Leno suffered severe burns in a fire in mid-November. In his garage, gasoline had probably ignited while he was screwing on a car. The talk show host suffered burns to his face, neck, arms and chest and had skin grafts. On November 22, Leno was released from the hospital.

“It was an accident, that’s all,” writes Jay Leno now. “Anyone who regularly works with their hands will eventually have an accident,” said the car enthusiast. “When you play football, you get a concussion or a broken leg. There’s a risk factor in anything you do.”

The former moderator of the “Tonight Show” does not want to complain: “There is nothing worse than tearful celebrities,” he concludes. “If you joke about it, people will laugh too.”
