A new picture of King Charles III has appeared in Great Britain. has been published and will soon hang in public buildings. The portrait shows the 75-year-old at Windsor Castle in a Royal Navy uniform, as the PA news agency reported on Tuesday night. Photographer Hugo Burnand had already photographed Charles and his wife Queen Camilla at the coronation in May 2023 and at their wedding in 2005.
Public institutions such as schools, courts and police departments can now apply to receive a framed picture. Up to now, a picture of Charles’ mother, Queen Elizabeth II, has hung in a number of public buildings. The tradition is now to be continued; according to PA, 8 million pounds (around 9.3 million euros) have been earmarked for this.
Opponents of the monarchy criticized the action. At a time when, for example, schools and hospitals are having problems, every pound “for this nonsense” is too much, the head of the Republic campaign, Graham Smith, criticized last year. “The government has lost its mind if it thinks people want money to be spent on pictures of Charles.”
