The palace has confirmed that Prince Harry (38) will attend the coronation of King Charles III. (74) and his wife, Queen Camilla (75), comes to London. However, he will not bring his wife and children to his old homeland. But why are Duchess Meghan (41), his son Archie (3) and his daughter Lilibet (1) not traveling from the USA to England?

“Buckingham Palace is pleased to confirm that the Duke of Sussex will attend the coronation ceremony at Westminster Abbey on May 6,” read a recent statement. “The Duchess of Sussex will remain in California with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.” Harry has been living there with his family since 2020.

So far, there is no official reason why Meghan and the children are not coming to Great Britain. But insiders believe they know how it is that only Prince Harry will be present: not only will the coronation ceremony take place on May 6, Archie will also celebrate his fourth birthday on this day. “There’s no way Meghan would miss her son’s birthday,” an anonymous source told Page Six. Royal expert Omid Scobie, 41, who is also considered a close friend of the Sussexes, also believes Archie’s birthday “played a role in the couple’s decision”.

Another reason could be that the palace allegedly only invited Harry and Meghan a few weeks ago. The Sunday Telegraph recently reported that Archie and Lilibet did not appear on the invite, which a spokesman said the couple had received via email.

Scobie also believes that Harry may only be staying in London for a short time and wants to return to the United States as soon as possible. He writes on Twitter of a “pretty quick trip […] for Prince Harry, who will only attend the coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey”. If Scobie is right, Prince William’s younger brother (40) will apparently not attend any further celebrations planned for May 7th and 8th around his father’s coronation.

A friend told the US magazine “People” that Harry wanted to support his father at this important moment in his life. And apparently that too, although the relationship between Harry, Charles and William is considered very tense. Since moving to the United States, Meghan and Harry have repeatedly criticized members of the royal family, sometimes sharply, in several interviews, a Netflix documentary and the prince’s autobiography (“Reserve”).
