“Tagesthemen” presenter Aline Abboud sleeps without her cell phone within reach. “My cell phone is never next to my bed at night,” the Berlin-born journalist told the “Tagesspiegel” (Saturday).

Sometimes she also turns off the mobile data on the phone and only looks at all the messages at the end of the day. “When I’m on vacation, I sometimes turn off my cell phone, otherwise you’ll get mad. You can get lost in all the many platforms.”

With social media and digitization, you get to see a lot more of the world. “Some friends of mine say, ‘I can’t mentally watch the news anymore,'” Abboud said. “I can understand that well, but I think that you shouldn’t close yourself off to the world. Otherwise you’re alone.”
