Mourning in the world of German basketball: The former professional player Dennis Kramer (1992-2023) is dead. As the “Göttinger Tageblatt” reports, Kramer died in a traffic accident near Barterode on Sunday evening.

The German Basketball Federation also shared the “terrible news” on Monday afternoon on X (formerly Twitter). “We mourn the loss of our former U18, U20 and A2 international Dennis Kramer (Universiade 2015 silver) who died tragically at the age of 31 in a traffic accident,” the post reads.

Kramer’s last professional club BG Göttingen also shared the terrible news on Instagram, among other things. “With great sadness and dismay, BG Göttingen responded to the news of the death of their former player Dennis Kramer,” read the post.

Kramer played for the club from 2017 to 2021 and played a total of 115 games as center. Before that, he played for EWE Baskets Oldenburg and TBB Trier in the German Basketball League. He attended university in San Diego from 2010 to 2014 and played in the US college league NCAA.

“The entire Göttingen basketball family will miss Kramer’s big heart, his open and humorous nature and his always positive attitude,” the moving Instagram post from BG Göttingen continues. National basketball player Maodo Lo (30), who is currently playing with the German selection at the 2023 Basketball World Cup, also remembers his former national teammates from the U23 team on Instagram. “Rest in peace man,” Lo wrote on Monday evening in an Instagram story about the German Basketball Federation’s contribution.
