Once again, “Bares for Rares” moderator Horst Lichter (61) invited to the historic Eberbach monastery in the Rheingau for the XXL episode to unearth great treasures among the supposed junk of his guests. In the episode on Wednesday (September 6th), “the current sport studio” presenter Katrin Müller-Hohenstein (58) also tried her luck – with an old lamp that her parents bought more than 40 years ago while on vacation in France.

“My parents used to never miss an antique shop,” Müller-Hohenstein recalls, slightly tormented, about her childhood. During one of these explorations, the said lamp with a look that took some getting used to was also purchased. Three angelic youths hold the round glass around the lamp like a globe. For safety reasons, the lamp, which probably dates from the early 1920s, could not be connected to the power supply during the broadcast. The moderator would have been happy about 200 euros and was therefore below the expert estimate of 250 to 350 euros. But the dealers were even more interested in the angel lamp – in the end it changed hands for 430 euros.

A proud price, but by no means the most valuable light source in the “Bares for Rares” edition: an artistic candle holder earned the enthusiastic seller a total of 9,500 euros. Another junk soldier of fortune had unequal bad luck: an old silver spoon turned out to be a fake and therefore didn’t even make it to the dealers.

On August 3 of this year, “Bares for Rares” celebrated its tenth anniversary, the show was initially launched as a weekly format on ZDFneo. From a small junk show, the format blossomed into an absolute ratings hit and finally migrated to ZDF in 2014.
