It’s an age-old narrative: Two women are arguing and the reason is a man. For years, rumors have persisted that Hailey Bieber and Selena Gomez are at odds because Hailey Bieber (then Baldwin) started dating the singer shortly after Gomez and Justin Bieber broke up. That is now more than five years ago.
But even today, Bieber is still being attacked online. Behind it are parts of Selena Gomez’s fan base, which is considered to be particularly passionate. The singer has called on her followers not to spread hate in her name, but Bieber continues to face negative comments. Now the model has taken a stand again.
“It’s about the hideous, disgusting hate that can arise from completely made up, twisted and maintained narratives. That can be really dangerous,” Bieber said recently on the show “The Circuit with Emily Chang”. She finds it dangerous that there are teams online. “I don’t agree with the kind of division this has caused. I don’t like the whole idea of ’team this person’ and ‘team that person’ – it’s just not my thing,” Bieber said.
She says it’s “disappointing” that so many people still think she and Gomez are fighting over a man. “This is the world we unfortunately live in,” she commented on the old-fashioned narrative, which she “hates” herself.
Selena Gomez has also taken a stance on the hatred directed at Bieber on social media on her behalf. She would “never support or condone” such behavior, Gomez said. “If you get involved, you’re part of a culture I don’t want to know about. Please be nice or don’t say anything,” she let her fans know. Only Justin Bieber has not yet commented on the alleged dispute and the consequences that have occupied his wife and ex-girlfriend for a long time.
