Mayor LaToya Cantrell stated she had been ordering all of pubs from town to close from Friday, Feb. 12 throughout the vacation on Tuesday, Feb. 16 due to coronavirus-related public health worries.
“We are concerned about this whole town and that is why we’re placing these tips in place,” Cantrell told reporters at a press conference Friday.
To-go drinks are also banned because of your five-day period, the mayor added.
The town intends to install fences and barricades in a bid to stop revelers from congregating in regions such as the Claiborne Underpass, and authorities will patrol to split up any parties that do sort.
Cantrell stated the town has issued warnings to companies that have broken neighborhood COVID-19 security protocols as well as shut down a few of the establishments. Any pubs that withstand the Mardi Gras ban may also face a potential shutdown.
“There has been a whole lot of warnings from the expectation that a warning could be good enough,” Cantrell said.
New Orleans officials had warned that no more Mardi Gras parades could be permitted in town, which is famously known for its big Mardi Gras parties.
More than 71 percent of hospital beds have been in use, placing local health centers in”high risk” of overload.
Cantrell had eased a few coronavirus limitations late last month. But masks are needed when about anybody from outside your home, companies must make sure at least half a year of social interaction between individuals who do not reside together, and parties are restricted to ten individuals indoors, or even 25 individuals outdoors.
