Actress Thekla Carola Wied doesn’t want to go back in front of the camera almost a year and a half after her departure from professional life.

It was “probably a question of wisdom and life experience to determine the right time to end this long professional life after 56 years,” she told the German Press Agency shortly before her 80th birthday. “It would have to be very extraordinary circumstances, especially regarding the quality of a material, that could change my mind again.”

Wied ended her career in autumn 2022 with the leading role in the award-winning ARD drama “Martha Liebermann – A Stolen Life”. She became known to a wide audience in the 1980s with the ZDF series “I’m Marrying a Family” alongside Peter Weck.

“Obviously this series hits home with the life experiences and emotional situations of many people across multiple generations; otherwise there would be no explanation for the continued success of this mini-series, even in the new millennium,” she said.

Thekla Carola Wied was born in Breslau and grew up in Berlin. She completed her acting training at the Folkwangschule in Essen. She has lived in Munich for many years. She wants to spend her birthday privately with her family.
