LOS ANGELES — Fred Segal, a prominent Los Angeles-based actress fashion merchant, died Thursday.
Segal”was an innovator, a forward thinker, a rule-breaker, a mentor to numerous, such a fan of life and a humanitarian,” his family said in a statement obtained from the Hollywood Reporter. “Anybody who knew him felt his strong energy. He worked his entire life to possess self-love and to instruct each one people to appreciate one another.”
His company’s site counts the Beatles, Diana Ross, Elvis Presley and Farrah Fawcett because his oldest fans.
Segal opened his first store in West Hollywood in 1961, in which he offered lace jeans and flannel and lace ensembles, the Los Angeles Times reported.
The Hollywood Reporter said Segal’s ivy-covered place in West Hollywood became a star hotspot through the last few years and has been featured prominently at the 1995 classic teen comedy film”Clueless.”

The Hollywood Reporter said it wasn’t unusual to see celebrity Cameron Diaz or other significant celebrities such as Jennifer Aniston perusing the shops at Fred Segal or dining at its restaurant.
