Over Easter, more people were on the long-distance Deutsche Bahn train than ever before. The train counted around 2.3 million passengers between Maundy Thursday and Easter Monday, as the group announced on Tuesday.

“For the first time, more than two million passengers decided to take the train at Easter,” said long-distance transport director Michael Peterson. In the previous year, the number of passengers was around 1.8 million.

According to Deutsche Bahn, the utilization of the trains has increased slightly by about two percentage points to 56 percent this year. The group referred to the additional seat availability in long-distance traffic through the regular delivery of further ICE 4 and ICE 3 Neo trains. The delays would have been within the expected range. The railway did not initially give exact figures.

In March, punctuality in long-distance transport had fallen back to below 70 percent. The main reason was again the numerous construction sites on the network in need of rehabilitation.
