The railway line between Kassel and Fulda will be closed for more than eight months due to construction work. Work on the section of the Hanover – Würzburg high-speed line is scheduled to begin on April 1st and end on December 9th, Deutsche Bahn announced. Train passengers must expect disabilities during this time.

According to the information, the long-distance trains are meanwhile using alternative routes. Depending on the line, travelers are up to 60 minutes longer by train to reach their destination, the railway said. For local transport, there will be timetable changes between Kassel, Melsungen, Bad Hersfeld, Treysa and Bad Wildungen during the construction work. Occasionally, trains would be canceled in the morning or evening or the departure times or platforms would change.

With the work on the section between Kassel and Fulda, Deutsche Bahn will finish the renovation of the high-speed line between Hanover and Würzburg, which started in 2019, at the end of 2023. According to the company, it is investing around 250 million euros for 163 kilometers of new tracks, 70 switches, 196,000 sleepers and the technology. In addition, 150,000 tons of ballast will be replaced along the route.
