  • Rhineland-Palatinate
  • Saarland

In Thuringia and Saxony is the public holiday only in the regions which are predominantly Catholic. For the rest of the länder of 11. June 2020 a regular working day.

In the regions, where corpus Christi is a public holiday, will remain closed most of the shops during the day. From this rule there are, however, some exceptions and special opening hours, especially in big cities.

What is celebrated on corpus Christi?

corpus Christi is celebrated since the year 1209 as a solemnity of the Catholic Christians, on the second Thursday after Pentecost.

The Festival goes back to the last supper of Jesus, where the latter handed over to his disciples the bread and wine. The Catholic Church and their followers celebrate the feast of corpus Christi, that the bread and wine, Jesus is still with you. You can read more about this here.

On the feast of corpus Christi be held actually, many of the often pompous processions, in which, as a rule, also the first communion children to go in their festive robes. In many municipalities, the procession routes will be especially adorned with flags, small altars and flowers. In some regions, there are colourful carpets of flowers, some of which are several hundred meters long.
