At the end of 2020 and at the beginning of 2021 come the first battery-powered train in operation.
Transport minister Benny Engelbrecht (S) have entered into a collaboration with regionsrådsformændene in the Capital, Zealand and central Jutland to test batteritog on two lines in Denmark.
The type of Transport and ministry of housing, in a press release.
It is planned that the batteritogene must run on the line between Helsingør and Hillerød in northern Zealand and on Lemvigbanen in northern Jutland from the end of 2020 and at the beginning of 2021.
the minister of Transport considers that there are huge advantages to batteritog. Partly it is a win for the climate, and partly batteritog solve the challenge, as especially smaller railways experience to go from diesel to electricity, he points out.
– Not enough to batteritog can reduce Denmark’s emissions of CO2, it also creates the basis for a better service.
– Overall, there are many indications, therefore, that batteritog can be an important piece for the future operation of trains in Denmark, says Benny Engelbrecht.
the Parties shall in the first instance, not to invest money in batteritogene, but instead have suppliers in the course of the trial the opportunity to show their trains back in the day to day operation.
Batteritog is today deployed in the trial operation with passengers in Austria, just as it is being tested in Germany, where there also is ordered batteritog.
Now is the turn of Denmark, believes Benny Engelbrecht.
– A test of the batteritog in Denmark will provide the relevant parties a useful erfaringsindsamling from the practical operation, before we potentially orders the batteritog to passenger services.
– It will also give passengers the opportunity to try batteritog in the everyday life of the Danish rails. My hope is that we from the middle of the 2020s will see batteritog in daily Matadorbet operation in Denmark, he says.
