According to the Federal Statistical Office, the increase in producer prices for agricultural products in Germany has weakened for the fifth month in a row.
In February 2023, producer prices for agricultural products were 20.4 percent higher than a year earlier, according to the Wiesbaden authority. In January there was an increase of 25.2 percent compared to the same month last year and in December 2022 it was almost 30 percent.
In February, the prices for plant products rose by 6.8 percent over a year, less than for animal products (plus 30.5 percent).
Compared to January, producer prices for agricultural products fell by a total of 0.7 percent.
The producer prices are the selling prices of the producers. They affect consumer prices. Producer prices for agricultural products had risen sharply because of the Ukraine war, because the prices for energy and raw materials rose significantly.
