The president of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelensky, has dismissed the commander of the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces, Yurii Halushkin, and appointed Major General Ihor Tantsiura in his place, the Ukrinform agency reported this Sunday and collected by EFE.

The decrees with both decisions, of which no further information has been given, have been published on the website of the Ukrainian president, according to the local agency.

Halushkin had been appointed commander of the Ukrainian Territorial Defense Forces on January 1 last. Until this Sunday, Ukraine has been invading for 81 days and attacks launched by the Russian Armed Forces, a war that has caused thousands of deaths on both sides and great destruction of infrastructure.

Zelenski, has indicated late on Sunday that the Ukrainian Armed Forces will not stop until they recover the Donbass and the Russian troops cease their offensive in the country. “We continue with very complicated and delicate negotiations to save our people of Mariúpol, from the Azovstal steel plant,” explained the Ukrainian president in a statement from the Presidency.

Thus, he has emphasized that “the occupiers still do not want to admit that they are in a dead end and that their so-called ‘special operation’ has already gone bankrupt.”
