The report says people in Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia have been suffering from one of the worst droughts in the last 40 years. After more than a decade of decline, malnutrition is on the rise again around the world. According to the report, up to 828 million people were malnourished last year.
Welthungerhilfe assessed the situation in 136 countries for the report, and detailed evaluations are available for 121 of them. In 44 countries, including Chad, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Madagascar, the Central African Republic and Yemen, the hunger situation is said to be serious or very serious.
Since 2014, the hunger situation has worsened in 20 countries with moderate, serious or very serious hunger levels. In contrast, 32 countries have achieved significant improvements since 2000.
